Read John 15:1-8. These verses are often used by those in the religious world to say that the branches refer to the denominations. But Jesus was talking to His disciples not denominations. In fact verse 6 says, "if a man abide not in me..." Jesus is the vine and His disciples are the branches. Denominations aren't connected to the vine. Denominations aren't planted by God, they are planted by the devil (Matt. 13:37-43).
