We are just vapors

 by David Long

"Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that" (James 4:;13-15). The word "vapor" means "mist." It refers to something that disappears quickly, like the morning fog or steam coming off a hot spring; you see it for a little bit then it vanishes away. It's a sober reminder that life is short, real short, no matter if one lives to be a hundred. Here today and gone to tomorrow. Don't waste your time on things that don't matter. Let's prepare for eternity. Its coming and it will be here sooner than we think.
